Community Living Options is looking for an experienced Youth Worker to join an established team located in Noarlunga Downs.
About you
The young people are seeking passionate, skilled and dynamic Youth Workers to be a part of the Placement and Support Packages program.
Ideally, they would like multi-skilled and nurturing people with a sound understanding of both Disability and trauma informed practices. They want creative thinkers who are solution focused, flexible, and have the capacity to learn new things every day. The successful applicants will be agile and versatile in their approaches as children residing in these placements can change up to every 90 days.
PaSP placements exist to provide safety, security and stability to young people who have just entered out of home care. This time is very scary for a young person. The team need people who are able to provide safety with empathy and nurture.
About the role
Challenges in PaSP placements are wide and varied and can consist of:
- Lack of routine
- Aggressive behaviors, both verbal and physical
- Spitting
- Food hoarding
- Poor hygiene
- Fear based behaviors
- Property damage
- Displays of hyper-vigilant protective behaviors
- Bed wetting/soiling/poor or lack of toileting
As part of this team, you will work closely with case managers and a wider team to provide stability, security, and routine, whilst providing the Department of Child Protection up to date information and reporting, to assist them in their task of placement scoping for young people in this program.
Fortnightly rotating roster across AM/PM and passive and active shifts
Role requirements
- Certificate IV in Child Youth & Family, individual Support, Community Services, Disability, or related.
- Demonstrated experience in responding to trauma-related behaviours
- Outgoing and friendly personality
- Experience managing challenging and aggressive behaviour
- Experience in Positive Behaviour crisis intervention
- Demonstrated oral and written communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to apply computing concepts
Mandatory Requirements -
- DHS Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- NDIS Worker Screening or DHS Disability related check
- Current Driver's Licence (Min P2)
- First Aid Certificate & CPR
- Must satisfy all Visa requirements to work in Australia
- Must be prepared to work over a 24-hour, 7-day rotating roster
- Psychometric Assessment or willing to undertake it
