Title: Aquatics Technician

Stipend: $687/week paid on a bi-weekly basis

Term: 24 weeks

Reports To: BLM Royal Gorge Field Office Aquatics Biologist

Location: Canon City, CO

Status: 900-hour AmeriCorps Service Term

Southwest Conservation Corps’ Mission

It is the mission of the Southwest Conservation Corps to empower individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities, and the environment.


Program Overview:

The BLM Aquatics Program covers a wide range of resources, including fisheries, riparian and hydrology. The program aims to project, enhance, and restore resources. There will be a combination of field work and administrative tasks. The internship will offer opportunities to work with outside partners and other programs within the BLM regularly.


The projects that will be worked on diverse but will include, monitoring of riparian areas, waterways, assist with fish sampling and stocking, monitor for noxious weeds, maintain tools, repair and install infrastructure and work on various projects/tasks related to fisheries, riparian, hydrology, weeds programs


Essential roles and responsibilities include:

  • Assist Fisheries Biologist with aquatic wildlife monitoring and sampling, monitoring of riparian areas, monitoring noxious weeds, ditch maintenance, riparian restoration projects, weed projects, reclamation projects, hydrologic monitoring, fisheries projects

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s license
  • U.S. Citizenship
    • Permanent Resident Card, INS form I-551
    • Alien Registration Card, INS form I-551
    • A passport indicating that the INS has approved it as temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence
    • A departure record (INS 194) indication that the INS has approved it as temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence
